Haider Ackermann

Haider Ackermann falls into the Belgian school of fashion by a technicality. Born in 1971 Sante Fe de Bogota, Colombia, Haider Ackermann grew up living in various cities throughout Europe and Africa. After graduating from high school, Ackermann moved to Belgium to join The Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He left the Academy after only 3 years to start working for different designers. In March 2002, Ackermann presented his first collection in Paris, which was critically acclaimed by the international press. In 2005, Ackermann signed up with the Belgian Groupe 32 and moved to Paris to open his own atelier. Haider Ackermann is also the winner of the prestigious Swiss Textile Award. Ackermann’s work is about contrast. The mix between high and low culture, elegance and street life. Ackermann is intrigued by cultural differences and cultural force. The purity and simple aesthetic of forms mixed with the activity and vitality of life itself.
