Yohji Yamamoto was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1943. He graduated from Keio University: However, Mr. Yamamoto was quickly influenced and fascinated at the time with ” Romanesque ” French culture and American pop music. At the age of 23, Mr. Yamamoto went to work with his mother who encouraged him to seek further schooling to train as a fashion dressmaker. In 1969, he graduated from Bunka Fukuso-Gakuin Fashion school in Tokyo where he won two leading fashion awards, which offered him a trip to Paris. It was there that Mr.Yamamoto was trully inspired by the ” Pret-a-Porter ” , and knew he wanted to put together a collection.
